Modelo may have lost the volume lead, but Americans still spend more on it than any other beer. Its fuller flavor, gentle malt character and crisp finish give it more weight than the average light lager without making it hard work.

Bud Light ruled America’s beer market for more than two decades before Modelo took the top spot in 2023. It may no longer wear the crown, but its clean taste, light body and enormous brand recognition keep it firmly in the conversation.

Coors Light has made cold refreshment its entire personality - and it works. Brewed in Golden, Colorado, this cold-filtered lager is crisp, uncomplicated and still a familiar sight in sports bars, tailgate coolers and backyard refrigerators.

Guinness is not competing with light lagers on sales volume, but Americans clearly have a soft spot for it. YouGov ranked it third for popularity in Q2 2026, with 49% holding a positive opinion.

Its creamy head, roasted coffee aroma and smooth bittersweet taste make it the dark horse of this very pale list.

Pinter’s take on the Lagunitas favorite is hoppy without becoming hard work. Bright citrus and floral pine sit over a subtle malt backbone, leading into a clean, easy-drinking finish - served straight from your Pinter while the flavor is at its freshest.

Stella Artois led UK off-trade beer sales by volume in 2025, proving there is still plenty of life in this pub and supermarket regular.

Malted barley and European Saaz hops give it a crisp, balanced flavor with a clean finish.

Australian in branding but firmly woven into British pub culture, Foster’s has long made refreshment its main selling point. The current 3.4% lager is smooth and easy-going, with subtle vanilla notes and no sharp bitter aftertaste.

Punk IPA helped turn a small Aberdeenshire brewery into one of Scotland’s best-known beer exports. The latest recipe keeps the tropical fruit, citrus and resinous hop character, with a brighter, fuller flavor than before.

Carlton Dry takes second place with a modern lager that keeps things simple: little fruitiness, low bitterness and a satisfyingly dry finish. Easy to drink and never too fussy, it is built for the sort of round where one beer rarely travels alone.

XXXX Gold remains a Queensland favorite, but its appeal now stretches well beyond the Sunshine State. Golden Cluster hops and Australian malted barley give it a smooth body, mild bitterness and just a trace of sweetness.

Coopers Pale Ale brings some welcome cloudiness to a top five otherwise dominated by clear lagers. Naturally conditioned in the bottle, can and keg, it has fruity and floral aromas, a generous head and a crisp bitter finish.

VB may no longer be Australia’s biggest seller, but it has not exactly disappeared from the barbecue. Australian pale malt and Pride of Ringwood hops create its familiar mix of sweet malt, gentle fruitiness and a properly bitter finish.

Mahou accounted for 15.6% of Spanish beer searches in 2025, putting it comfortably at the top.

Madrid's home beer is golden, smooth and pleasantly restrained, with a creamy head and a mild fruity character that works very nicely alongside a plate of tapas.

Estrella Galicia claimed 11.5% of searches, making it Spain’s second most popular brand by this measure. Brewed in A Coruña, it has a fuller hop character than many Spanish lagers, with floral and herbal notes followed by a long, pleasantly bitter finish.

San Miguel took third place with 8.7% of Spanish beer searches in 2025. Its pale-gold body brings aromas of apple, banana and white fruit, followed by cereal, hops and a dry, balanced finish. Refreshing, but certainly not short on flavor.

Estrella Damm is the beer most closely tied to Barcelona and leads local preference in Catalonia. Brewed with barley malt, rice and hops, it is crisp and lightly bitter, with enough malt character to hold its own beside seafood, olives and just about anything served on a small plate.

Cruzcampo is the unmistakable beer of Seville and the leading regional choice across Andalusia. Pale, light-bodied and designed for warmer weather, it combines a gentle fruity aroma with smooth malt and moderate aromatic bitterness. Best served cold. Spain has already tested that theory thoroughly.
